Just 12 minutes ago, a 3.3-magnitude earthquake struck near Ararat, Victoria, Australia. The tremor was recorded around noon on Tuesday, March 3rd, 2026, at 1:21 pm local time, at a shallow depth of 6.2 miles below the surface.The event was filed by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), the first seismological agency to report it.Our monitoring service identified a second report from Geoscience Australia (GeoAu) which listed the quake at magnitude 3.3 as well. A third agency, the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake, reported the same quake at magnitude 3.3.Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter. Weak shaking might have been felt in Landsborough (pop. 170) located 3 miles from the epicenter.Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Avoca (pop. 1,200) located 17 miles from the epicenter, Ararat (pop. 8,500) 20 miles away, and Stawell (pop. 5,900) 21 miles away.
