‘I have lost all my dignity’: Bride left in tears at wedding after ‘spiteful’ sister-in-law covers her in paint in act of ‘revenge’

A wedding day is supposed to be one of if not the most important day of a person’s life so there is a lot of pressure to make sure that everything goes right. However, for Gemma Monk, a woman from the U.K., her special day was completely ruined by her vindictive sister-in-law, after she threw black paint over Gemma moments before she was due to walk down the aisle. Antonia Eastwood, who was married to Gemma’s brother, crashed the wedding to commit her act of “spiteful” revenge in front of shocked wedding guests. After dousing her sister-in-law in paint the 49-year-old fled the scene, leaving Gemma completely gobsmacked and covered in paint. Thankfully the determined bride did not let Antonia’s actions completely derail her special day. She told KentOnline, “We had waited for that day for so long. Nothing was going to stop me.” The 35-year-old quickly cleaned her face and changed into another dress an usher was able to procure for her.  After a small delay she was walking down the aisle to marry the man she’d been in love with for 20 years. Gemma joked, “I would have walked down the aisle in my knickers and with black paint over my face if I had to.” Unfortunately the wedding dress could not be saved, ruining Gemma’s plans to hand it down to her daughter. Why was Antonia so against Gemma’s wedding? According to Gemma, Antonia “was determined that the wedding was not going to happen,” but why was the sister-in-law so eager to ruin such a special occasion? Gemma explained that she had been accused of “trying to trip up” Antonia at her wedding to Gemma’s brother. This happened a few years earlier but it seems the sister-in-law had held a grudge ever since. It’s also worth noting that Gemma denies trying to trip up Antonia at her wedding. Since that day Gemma and her husband have not been on good terms with Antonia and her husband. Due to the bad blood between the couples Antonia was not invited to the wedding, but she showed up anyway. But the sister-in-law’s bad deed did not go unpunished as she was later sentenced at Maidstone Crown Court for two offences of criminal damage. The bill for repairs and “loss of revenue” for the wedding venue was believed to exceed £5,000 ($6,800). Gemma was able to read a victim statement to the court in which she shared the lasting impact the attack had had on her, “I have lost all my dignity and good habits in life. I have lost who I used to be.” When it came to handing down the sentence the judge chastised Antonia before giving her a 10-month jail term suspended for 12-months and 160 hours of unpaid work. She was also given a 10-year restraining order and told to pay £5,000 in compensation, £4,000 to Gemma Monk, and £1,000 to the wedding venue.
