A team reached the spot and initiated an investigation. A case was registered under relevant provisions of the BNS.Based on the CCTV footage and local intelligence, six juveniles were traced and apprehended. Investigators said one of them is suspected to have inflicted the fatal stab injury. The weapon of offence, a knife, has also been recovered.Police said the incident was triggered by a dispute a day earlier. “The motive appears to be a personal grudge. On the day preceding the killing, the main offender and his grandmother were involved in a verbal spat with the deceased and his father. It is alleged that derogatory remarks and gestures made toward the elderly woman during this argument provoked the accused to carry out the retaliatory attack with his associates,” said DCP (Outer North) Hareshwar Swami.Preliminary findings suggest that a group of local youths had gathered near the victim’s residence on April 13, leading to a heated exchange. The next day, the group allegedly returned and attacked Rajeev during a confrontation in the street.Further investigation is underway, said police, adding that efforts are ongoing to identify and apprehend any other individuals involved.Sakshi Chand is an Assistant Editor at The Indian Express, based in New Delhi.
