Prime Minister Robert Abela visited the Hard Rock Hotel project in St Julian’s, which is being developed by the DB Group and is now in its final phase ahead of its opening next summer. The project, which represents an investment of around €320 million, is intended to further strengthen Malta’s position as a high-quality tourism destination. The hotel is being developed with a strong emphasis on sustainability and is expected to become Hard Rock’s flagship property not only in Europe, but also in Africa and the Middle East.It will include 397 rooms, the largest wellness facilities in Malta, and what is expected to be the country’s largest shopping centre.Prime Minister Robert Abela said the multimillion-euro project is further evidence of the confidence investors have in Malta, its economy, and its tourism industry. He noted that the investment is taking place during a period of international challenges, where many countries are facing instability, while Malta continues to benefit from stability and certainty.Dr Abela said this is being recognised by international credit agencies such as DBRS Morningstar and the International Monetary Fund. He also referred to new regulations in the hospitality sector, saying they will continue to raise standards within the industry. He reiterated that tourism plays a crucial role in driving Malta’s strong economic growth, adding that these results have been achieved through well-planned strategies and ambitious targets aligned with Vision Malta 2050, which is based on quality and added value. He noted that Malta’s tourism industry is not only growing but also evolving. The government’s aim, he said, is not only to consolidate existing achievements but to continue pushing forward a more sustainable tourism model.“This reflects our commitment to continuous transformation, to enhance our tourism product and raise quality levels across the entire hospitality sector,” Dr Abela said, noting the efficiency with which the project progressed to completion in under three years.“This project encourages the company to continue broadening its vision with more confidence and ambition. We will continue investing in Malta and attracting global brands that contribute to higher quality and positive development,” said DB Group Chairperson Silvio Debono.DB Group CEO Robert Debono said the project is expected to attract more visitors and residents seeking quality in everything, people who contribute more to the economy, with a lower environmental impact and less overcrowding. What do you make of this?•
