English golfer Eddie Pepperell has admitted he once launched an X-rated slur on the golf course at Bryson DeChambeau. The two-time European Tour winner has a chequered history with American DeChambeau with the pair having clashed on the course and on social media.Eddie Pepperell revealed details of his foul-mouthed attempt to wind up opponent Bryson DeChambeauGettyTensions sparked when Pepperell took advantage of an opportune moment to wind up the LIV Golf star during a WGC event in 2019 in the hope of destabilising his focus.Pepperell recalled: “Back in 2019 I played the WGC Mexico event at Chapultepec and on the final day I was paired with Alex Noren and Bryson DeChambeau.“It was Sunday, and we were in the last group. Off the 10th. Earlier in the week, Bryson went birdie free, and after his long and miserable Thursday round he was filmed practising on the putting green.“I think from memory it was Nick Dougherty presenting on TV and the camera inadvertently caught Bryson smashing his putter into the practice putting green.“Well s*** me, didn’t Twitter explode and within hours he was being put up for incarceration in most countries.“Anyway, having seen all the backlash myself on Twitter over the course of the days that followed, I knew exactly how stressed Bryson would probably be.“So it didn’t take me long, 40 yards in fact walking just off the 10th tee, to ask him how his week had been (I’ve always been a s*** stirrer really). He said it had been terrible for him.“I asked if he had been on social media at all… he said he hadn’t. Which led me to my moment of opportunity.“I said, ‘ah, that’s a shame, as you wouldn’t have seen what I said about you then’. He asked what I said, to which I replied, ‘I just said you were a c***.’”Pepperell has never minced his words when referring to DeChambeau.DeChambeau remained calm rather than not to rising to Pepperell’s cheeky tauntsGettyIn 2019, the Englishman described him as ‘a single-minded twit’ on social media, hitting out at DeChambeau’s pace of play at The Northern Trust.Pepperell later apologised for the comment, but targeted the American again later that year after DeChambeau had aimed a dig at Brooks Koepka‘s physique, claiming the then world No 1 did not have any ‘six pack abs’.Koepka brilliantly responded by posting a picture of his four major trophies alongside the message: “You were right, I am two short of a six-pack.”Pepperell inserted himself into the controversy adding: “This is why you just don’t go after the No.1 golfer in the world.”And as fate usually creates such drama, DeChambeau and Pepperell were paired together in Dubai a year later.Shortly after the final-round pairings were confirmed, Pepperell again took to social media with a tongue-in-cheek comment regarding the pair’s awkward relationship.Pepperell found himself in an awkward situation when paired with the American at an event 12 months laterGettyHe posted: “Fully understand if Bryson wants to keep hitting it 40 past me tomorrow so we don’t have to chat.”However, there was no further beef between the pair with Pepperell later posting: “We actually got on quite well. And to his credit, he’s sped up.”
