Journalist Pete O’Rourke has made a revelation about the race for Tottenham target Savinho as the winger struggles for game time at Manchester City.Tottenham were reportedly willing to pay around £70m for Savinho last summer, but their efforts fell through as Man City decided against sanctioning a sale.Spurs rekindled their interest in the Brazilian winger in January, but their pursuit once again proved unsuccessful. It was reported back in March that Tottenham may finally get the chance to land the 21-year-old this summer, as his future at the Etihad Stadium is in doubt.Photo by Marc Atkins/Getty ImagesPep Guardiola could once again block Savinho’s move to TottenhamThe former Girona man has struggled for starts at the Etihad Stadium this term and has flattered to deceive when opportunities have come his way. However, journalist Pete O’Rourke has now revealed that Pep Guardiola is a big fan of Savinho, and he could once again block any attempt to sell the winger, just as he did a year ago.O’Rourke told Football Insider: “It was Pep Guardiola who really fought to keep him (last summer) and urged the club to keep hold of him. He was rewarded with a new contract just last October that runs until 2031. We know how hard it is to break into City’s star-studded starting eleven.“It’s obvious that Guardiola is a big fan of him, and I don’t think he will be rushing him out the door because he knows that Man City will have so many games to play next season, so they’ll need a lot of depth and strength in that squad.“I’m sure there are numerous clubs keeping tabs on Savinho’s situation hoping that the lure of a regular first team football could be enough to prise him away from City.”Is Savinho still a target for Spurs after Roberto de Zerbi’s arrival? There is no doubt that Tottenham Hotspur need to strengthen out wide, having failed to replace Brennan Johnson in January. However, it was widely reported last summer that Thomas Frank was the one pushing Spurs to land Savinho, with the Danish coach said to be ‘in love’ with the Man City man.Now that Frank has been replaced by De Zerbi, it is very much possible that the Brazilian would no longer be at the top of the Lilywhites’ wishlist.READ MORE: ‘Are we lowkey just broke?’ – Tottenham fans react to third-straight free agent rumourThe post Savinho transfer update as Tottenham lurk: Could Spurs finally sign the Man City starlet? appeared first on Spurs Web.
