‘These are the REAL PATRIOTS!’: Military veterans arrested by Capitol police after taking a stand against Trump’s war on Iran

A large group of military veterans made a stand in the Cannon House Office Building this week in protest against Donald Trump’s war on Iran. The former vets and military family members peacefully protested in the congressional office building before many were arrested by Capitol police. According to an article from The Hill, 62 people were arrested during the demonstration which was organized by several veteran groups. The veteran protesters stood in the Cannon building chanting anti-war slogans while holding red tulips and banners that read, “End the War on Iran.” There was also a flag folding ceremony done to commemorate the 13 U.S. soldiers that have already lost their lives in the Iran conflict. Videos shared on social media show Capitol police showing up soon after and arresting the protesters. The veterans and others who were there to support the cause were zip-tied and taken out of the building by officers. BREAKING: About 120 U.S. military veterans were arrested inside the Cannon House Office Building today protesting Trump's war on Iran. Some were on crutches. Some were in wheelchairs. Some carried the burial flags of fallen soldiers. They are members of About Face — veterans… pic.twitter.com/bNTO000usM— Brian Allen (@allenanalysis) April 20, 2026 Of course, this move wasn’t exactly good from a PR perspective considering most Americans are against the war in Iran and for supporting veterans. Treating them like criminals and marching them out of the building in cuffs no doubt served to further solidify support for their cause. Many of these people were on crutches or in wheelchairs as well which only serves to show just how much they have sacrificed for the U.S. Most people disagree with Trump’s war on Iran The U.S., or more accurately Trump, starting war with Iran has not proven to be popular with the vast majority of Americans. According to Pewresearch.org over 60% of Americans disapprove of the decision to use force against the Middle-East country. Many voiced their opinions on X commending the veterans for their choice to make a stand against war. “These are the REAL PATRIOTS!” wrote one person, going on to thank the former soldiers for their bravery at the event. Another person pointed out the hypocrisy of veterans being arrested for a peaceful protest at the Capitol while J6 rioters were pardoned last year, “Arrested? Veterans? Arrested? But J6 insurrectionist are pardoned? J6 insurrectionist crimes are thrown out?” These veterans know what the cost of war is, after all, they’ve lived through it. They travelled to the Capitol to try and stop others from having to go through what they did and the Trump administration is punishing them for doing so. These people know better than the draft-dodging Donald Trump how devastating war can be. In fact, they know better than any of us. Perhaps it’s time we listened to them
