Remember Fairgame$? No? It's really hard to fault you if you don't.Announced in 2023, the debut title from PlayStation's Haven Studios has not been heard from since. We're coming up on the three-year anniversary of its reveal now, and a new report has some info on what could be happening behind the scenes.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l1Jp4K02L1IOriginally described as a "competitive heist experience," the new report from Insider Gaming claims that the title is still in the works and will be looking to capitalize on the popularity of the extraction shooter genre with a similar mode of its own.Citing official documents, the report claims that one of Fairgame$'s mode's descriptions reads as follows:Break In – Find a vault code to gain access to the safe. Collect cash, upgrade your skillset, and make your play.Drill – The vault is breached. Be the team to grab the cargo, or set up your strategy to intercept it.Extract – The Cargo must be brought to the Extraction Site. Use the Extraction device to call your ride home. If your team fails to extract cargo, use another exit to Getaway. The 2023 trailer showed some slick CGI visuals and teased the aforementioned heist gameplay, showing multiple teams of three fighting over a vault and the loot within. Adding in some extraction-style mechanics makes it seem like the game is still somehow trying to find its niche, even if that means borrowing from other genres. It's anyone's guess on what will happen with Fairgame$ in the future, but given Sony's mishandling of several studios and titles in development this generation, it's hard to fault people for wondering if this game is ever going to come out. Trying to potentially shoehorn in mechanics from games like Escape From Tarkov or Marathon to try and bring in players may or may not make an overall impact in the end.Fairgame$ will reportedly be free-to-play, and it was announced for both PS5 and PC, but it still faces an uphill battle when trying to get a foothold in the multiplayer market in 2026...or whenever it may release. The post PlayStation’s long-lost Fairgame$ reportedly pivoting to include an extraction mode after years of silence appeared first on Destructoid.
