Omar spokesperson: “The amended disclosure confirms what we’ve said all along: The congresswoman is not a millionaire.”By Vered Weiss, World Israel News Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar said an accounting “discrepancy” led to an inflated disclosure listing her net worth as high as $30 million, as revised filings show her shared assets with her husband at up to $95,000, according to the Wall Street Journal. The updated figures came after Omar submitted amended disclosures following a request for additional information from the Office of Congressional Conduct earlier this year, the Journal reported. The correction significantly reduced the previously reported asset range. Earlier filings had indicated that Omar and her husband, Tim Mynett, held assets valued between $6 million and $30 million, representing a roughly 3,500% increase in net worth from 2023 to 2024. The higher valuation was tied to Mynett’s business interests, including a Santa Rosa, California-based winery and a venture capital firm headquartered in Washington, DC. “The amended disclosure confirms what we’ve said all along: The congresswoman is not a millionaire,” her spokesperson, Jacklyn Rogers, told the outlet. “The congresswoman amended her disclosures voluntarily as soon as the discrepancy was identified.” An attorney cited by the Journal attributed the issue to reliance on financial professionals for reporting requirements. “As the busiest of people, it is very common for members and their spouses to rely on learned professionals like accountants to make calculations and determinations that appear on public filings,” the attorney wrote. “While the error is of course unfortunate, there is nothing untoward and nothing illegal has occurred.” Rep. Ilhan Omar previously faced scrutiny over campaign finance violations, including a case in which she was fined for improperly using campaign funds related to personal expenses. She acknowledged the violations and repaid the funds. Other claims have circulated publicly, though she has denied broader allegations of financial wrongdoing. The post Ilhan Omar claims she is not a millionaire, blames ‘accounting discrepancy’ for 3,500% jump in net worth appeared first on World Israel News.
