Haji Wright scores as Coventry City seals EFL Championship title

Wait 5 sec.

Haji Wright got back to scoring ways on Tuesday night as already-promoted Coventry City officially clinched the top spot in the EFL Championship. Wright scored the Sky Blues’ opening goal in an eventual 5-1 home victory over Portsmouth. The result sealed Frank Lampard’s squad the league title with two matches left to play this season. Wright kicked off the scoring in the 12th minute, powering home a header to finish off Jack Rudoni’s cross. It marked Wright’s 18th goal of the season in all competitions as the American snapped his six-match goal-less drought. There goes that man! Adrian Segecic pulled a lone consolation back for John Mousinho’s squad but Coventry City would score twice more through Mason-Clark’s second tally and Kaine Kesler-Hayden’s stoppage time insurance goal. Wright played 75 minutes in the match, moving one goal away from tying his career-best haul for a single campaign. Coventry City will now aim to eclipse the 90-point mark in Sunday’s home showdown with playoff-chasing Wrexham. The Sky Blues will officially conclude their campaign at Watford on May 2.
