Inside Cabinet Meeting Where Ministers Accused Todwong, Fought over Retreat Invites for The Just-Ended Kyankwanzi

By Mulengera ReportersRecently during a Cabinet meeting at State House, President Museveni came under direct pressure from senior Ministers who accused organizers of the just-ended Kyankwanzi meeting of trying to work as proxies of some powerful people to lock them out of the ruling NRM party’s new MPs and friendly independents. First it was Persis Namuganza (the newly re-elected Bukono County MP) who called on the President to intervene. She claimed that the people at Kyadondo had been compromised to fight other people’s wars by targeting and locking her out of the agenda-setting retreat. She reminded the President about the circumstances under which she sought re-election on the independent ticket. She assured him that she remains a loyal cadre of the Movement and condemned attempts by some people to coerce people like herself into signing up to MoUs of cooperation between themselves as independent MPs on one hand and the mighty NRM party on the other. Namuganza told the President (who she always refers to as Papa) that she doesn’t need to sign such rushed MoUs to prove or demonstrate her political loyalty to him or the ruling NRM party. She demanded that the President orders Richard Todwong the NRM Secretary General to man up and take effective charge of the NRM Secretariat which was in charge of organizing the retreat. She referred to a leader at whose instigation, the retreat organizers had allowed to issue accreditation smuggling in more than 50 individuals (designated as NALI staff) yet in actual sense, these had nothing to do with NRM party. Clearly disturbed to receive all this very disturbing information from Namuganza, Museveni verbally invited Namuganza to the retreat in his capacity as party Chairman and called on her to report back to him immediately should anyone try to block her participation. Namuganza’s chacreristic fearlessness emboldened Minister Norbert Mao who also implored the President to invite him too on grounds that this would give meaning to the political cooperation agreement between his party DP and the ruling NRM. Museveni immediately proclaimed “you [Mao] have also been invited because it’s true you are our person under that political cooperation agreement between the NRM and DP.” (For comments on this story, get back to us on 0705579994 [WhatsApp line], 0779411734 & 041 4674611 or email us at mulengeranews@gmail.com).
