Jonathan Klinsmann will play no further part in Cesena’s Serie B season this spring.Klinsmann suffered a broken neck in Cesena’s 2-0 league loss to Palermo on Saturday, being stretchered off the field in second-half stoppage time. The U.S. men’s national team goalkeeper’s official diagnosis was a cut to his head and a fracture of his first cervical vertebra.“Tests revealed a fracture of the first cervical vertebra, for which the goalkeeper will undergo further tests and a neurosurgical consultation,” the club said in a statement.The son of former USMNT head coach Jurgen, Klinsmann made 35 appearances for Cesena this season, helping them stay in the promotion picture. Cesena currently sits eighth in the league table with three matches to go. Klinsmann joined the club during the 2023-24 season and has made 66 appearances in all competitions. A former USYNT player, Klinsmann was on the USMNT’s bench for last November’s friendlies against Paraguay and Uruguay. He is still seeking his senior debut. “During the match I suffered a fracture to my spine which will sideline me for a while,” Klinsmann said on his Instagram account. “I want to thank everyone on the ground and at the hospital here in Palermo, the fans of both Cesena and Palermo for the warm wishes and of course my friends and family who have supported me over the last few days.“Good luck to the boys in our playoff push and I will see you all very soon.”Cesena has failed to win its last three matches and overall has only earned one victory in its last 12 matches.
