Yeah, that would be my primary concern playing outside. But like basically my only one. I’ve lived in some pretty shitty neighbourhoods- like gang activity, don’t bother calling the cops because they won’t come and if they do they’ll 100% make the situation worse, your car is gonna get broken into so might as well leave it unlocked kind of shitty. Honestly maybe it’s different in the states but it seemed like most people knew the kids and kept an eye out, and they kept an eye out for each other. You weren’t allowed to play after dark, there were typical rules like don’t take candy from strangers and don’t follow anyone you don’t know and no getting into creepy vans, but everyone went home for dinner anyways at that point. People didn’t really ever fuck with kids because they know it’ll put a neon lit giant target on them if they end up in prison. Aside from the general petty crime and gang activity I think the worst thing that ever happened was some kid kept lighting mailboxes and bags of dog shit on fire and once a different kid got bit by a coyote that found its way into town. I was more concerned living on the Rez but that’s only because there were a few dogs that were aggressive.
