A manhunt is underway in Staten Island, New York, after a woman was shot in the neck outside a Target. The police believe that her 20-year-old boyfriend, who is currently on the run, was the culprit of the crime. The woman works at the Target at 2873 Richmond Ave, near the Staten Island Mall in New Springville. At that point, the attention shifted to finding who shot the woman on her way to work. Witnesses shared that they saw the victim’s 20-year-old boyfriend shoot her and then flee the scene on a motorcycle, heading eastbound on Yukon Avenue towards Forest Hill Road. No arrests made yet Lately, there has been a disturbing trend of gun violence in New York. There was a woman who went on a walk with two toddlers in Brooklyn, and her daughter, who had just started learning how to speak, was shot by a stray bullet from gang-related shootings. So the pressure with which the New York City Police Department has to close these cases cannot be understated. The workplace is also increasingly becoming less safe, because this is not the first instance of someone being attacked at work. A case in Ohio at a Walmart slightly mirrors this, in the sense that a woman was attacked by a knife-wielding, mentally unstable man during her shift. So the increase in senseless violent crime has many in the nation worried. This case in Staten Island has still resulted in no arrest, and the police are looking for any tips in relation to the crime. Details on who the man and woman are are still being kept under wraps, so it’s possible that the police do have some internal leads that they’re following up on. The only thing the New York City Police Department has revealed is that he was last seen wearing an all-black outfit. The New York City Police Department will always have its fair share of controversies surrounding it. But they boast a 22% decrease in murders in the past year. According to Pix11, there have thankfully been no killings in Staten Island in 2026, and before Friday’s shooting, they had only experienced four shootings in the area. According to SILive, Target released a statement saying, “We are deeply saddened by this act of violence towards a team member at our Staten Island store. Our thoughts are with them and their loved ones. We are working closely with law enforcement as they investigate. The store is closed for the remainder of the day as we focus on supporting our team during this difficult time. We will refer additional questions to law enforcement as the investigation continues.” The New York City Police Department has assured that anyone who reaches them on 1-800-577-TIPS (8477), or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782), with tips will be protected under strict confidentiality.
