One arrested as Police seize firearm, ammo in South Ruimveldt

Police are investigating the discovery of a firearm and ammunition during an intelligence-led operation in South Ruimveldt, Georgetown.The operation took place in the early hours of Thursday, January 1, around 03:40hrs, when mobile patrol officers observed a motor car moving along Durban Street. The driver reportedly sped off as officers approached, prompting a pursuit.The vehicle was eventually intercepted at the intersection of Aubrey Barker and High Palm Roads. A search was conducted in the presence of the driver, who was the sole occupant of the car.During the search, officers reportedly found a suspected 9mm pistol and a magazine containing three suspected 9mm rounds inside the driver-side door of the vehicle.The 26-year-old male suspect, from Lamaha Park, Georgetown, was arrested and taken to the East La Penitence Police Station.
