An overflow of sewage was reported this morning in Gozo, near a waterway where E. coli bacteria had been detected recently, raising fresh environmental and public health concerns.The Malta Ranger Unit reported that sewage was flowing into a valley and surrounding green fields just outside Victoria, within the limits of Xagħra. Paper waste and human faeces were seen being carried along the runoff, spreading across the area and posing a risk to nearby land and waterways.The site is located very close to an area previously flagged for high levels of E. coli contamination, which had been linked to the deaths of ducks and geese, as highlighted by Times of MaltaThe Environment & Resources Authority (ERA) Gozo section responded promptly to the report and confirmed that action will be taken in coordination with the Water Services Corporation to address the situation and prevent further contamination.Authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant and to report any similar incidents encountered while out in nature.
