The Post Għalina campaign has launched an interactive map of Manoel Island, letting the public explore the island’s rich history, natural beauty, and cultural significance from the comfort of their screens at www.manoelislandcampaign.org.Earlier this year, activists from Moviment Graffitti and Flimkien għal Ambjent Aħjar successfully pushed for the renegotiation of a 99-year lease between the Government and MIDI, bringing the dream of a public park on Manoel Island one step closer to reality. The map is the result of a series of public workshops, where locals shared their vision for the island. It highlights tangible and intangible assets, including:Archaeological and built heritage like Fort Manoel, the Royal Navy Pay Office (later REMPEC), and layered WWII defences.Terrestrial and marine biodiversity, with native and even endemic plants and animals.Socially relevant aspects, capturing the memories and stories tied to spaces across the island.A short promo video accompanying the map showcases Fort Manoel’s grand gate and staircase, historical buildings, and the island’s lush winter greenery, including flowering narcissus, bringing Manoel Island’s centuries-old story to life. The campaign stresses that any future transformation of the island must preserve its nature, culture, and history, creating a public space that can be enjoyed by generations to come.Share this with someone who you want to go to Manoel Island with!Media credits to @manoelislandpostghalina on Instagram.•
