The Cleveland Browns have just one game remaining of the 2025 NFL season. It has been a campaign for the Browns which has been a media circus from the very moment that they selected quarterback Shedeur Sanders in the 2025 NFL draft.Shedeur Sanders got his second career win against the Pittsburgh SteelersGettyAfter starting his rookie year ranked fourth on the depth chart, the son of NFL icon and Hall of Famer Deion Sanders finally found his way onto the field in Week 11 after fellow rookie quarterback Dillon Gabriel suffered a concussion. Despite a rocky debut, and the revelation that head coach Kevin Stefanski wanted to redshirt his rookie season, Sanders became the first Browns quarterback since 1995 to win on his first start. Since then, wins have come few-and-far-between, but the 23-year-old pulled off a 13-6 victory over 42-year-old Aaron Rodgers and the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday for his second career win. In the victory, which prevented the Steelers from clinching the AFC North title, and sending them into a Week 18 showdown with the Baltimore Ravens for that coveted playoff spot, Sanders went 17-of-23 passing for 186 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. “It felt good getting a win overall and especially the team we won against,” Sanders said postgame. “I think it’s been bittersweet because I feel like the offense, we got to do our part. “I got to do my part a little bit more, we can’t be happy with only 13 points on the board. So, we just got to be able to put up more points.“It’s extremely exciting to get the win at home, for sure. I’ve been needing to win at home for a minute, so that’s what’s good, that’s what I’m excited for, that we brought that feeling back in this place.”In his seven-game campaign so far, the former Colorado Buffaloes star has racked up 1,289 passing yards for seven touchdowns, albeit firing 10 interceptions. Browns still uncertain whether Sanders is their futureBrowns insider Mary Kay Cabot reported that the organization have yet to fully decide on whether they want to move forward with Sanders as their QB1 next season, with them currently holding the sixth overall pick for the 2026 NFL draft. “When the Browns know their draft spot and who’s coming out, they’ll factor those into the debate over whether or not to move forward with Sanders as their QB1 for 2026,” Cabot wrote on Sunday.Sanders’ second career win came against future HOF QB and 4x NFL MVP Aaron RodgersGettyPat of approval from Stefanski after Sanders took down Aaron Rodgers and the SteelersGetty“The decision will largely come down to whether or not the Browns believe that Sanders has more upside than one of the draft picks. It will be impossible to know for sure if he can be their QB of the future on a seven-game sample size.“Even if plays well in Cincinnati, it will still be difficult to determine if he’ll be a playoff-caliber QB over the next few years. “The Browns will have to go on Sanders’ traits and their own gut instincts about his potential. But each week, he’s shown enough to remain in the conversation for the role, and he’s got one last shot next week to bolster his resume.”Stefanski offers his young QB some advice for improvementBut Stefanski, who has drawn plenty of criticism for not playing the young rookie earlier in the season, seems to have changed his tune, appearing to become more and more impressed by Sanders as the weeks have passed. “Yeah, obviously he wins, you know, gotta win,” Stefanski told the media after the game on Sunday. “So that’s great for the young man. Gets to beat Pittsburgh, gets to beat a division rival. So, they’re not going to be easy, not in this division. So proud of him for that.“There are always things he can clean up. I thought we got a little unlucky on that first interception. We can certainly learn from the second one and he will. But, yeah, he continued to battle.”Sanders has one more game in the 2025 season to show Stefanski he is the Browns QB of the futureGettySanders will be hoping that he can closely rival Deshaun Watson for the Browns starting job in 2026GettyAhead of the Browns’ Week 18 game against Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals, Stefanski has spoken out about what Sanders can do to improve going forward. “For him when it comes to things we’re looking for him to improve upon, I think [QB] coach [Bill] Musgrave, coach [offensive coordinator Tommy] Rees do a great job with all positions but in this case the quarterback position of, we’re looking to improve upon ‘this’ this week,” Stefanski said. “And sometimes those are very specific, individual type things whether it be footwork, or ball placement on certain routes, operation, we want to be better in this area at the line of scrimmage, all those things,” he continued.“I think you get great development and progress when you’re specific about what you’re looking for, uh, so that happens really every week for our players,”Sanders has one game left of the season to add to his case that he should be the Browns’ starting quarterback for next season, despite $230 million Deshaun Watson‘s expected imminent return to the fold.Stay up to date with the latest from the NFL across all platforms – follow our dedicated talkSPORT USA Facebook page and subscribe to our talkSPORT USA YouTube channel for all the news, exclusives, interviews and more.
