After a full round of midweek Premier League action, it’s time for another edition of our Team of the Week.Goalkeeper: Nick Pope – NewcastleLooks to have grabbed the gloves back from Aaron Ramsdale in the battle to be Newcastle’s number one. On his return from injury, Pope made several saves to impress at his former side, Burnley, as Newcastle earned a much-needed win on the road.Right-back: James Justin – Leeds UnitedPart of a resilient Leeds side that stretched their unbeaten run to six Premier League games at Liverpool. Justin was up and down all game, keeping close tabs on Florian Wirtz, with eight defensive duels won, six clearances, and plenty of physical battles. A deserved man of the match in the goalless draw at Anfield. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});Centre-back: James Tarkowski – EvertonA rock at the back as Everton made it successive shutouts with a 2-0 win at Nottingham Forest. Tarkowski racked up a huge 13 clearances, won 100% of his ground duels (3/3), and 6 of 7 contested in the air. When it comes to penalty box defending, Tarkowski is one of the most reliable around.Centre-back: Omar Alderete – SunderlandSunderland’s recruitment team deserves a pat on the back for their summer work. Amid a series of smart signings, the £10m deal to sign Omar Alderete was inspired. Former club Getafe claimed Sunderland were getting one of La Liga’s best defenders, reluctantly sold amid financial needs, and Alderete has lived up to that billing this season. The 29-year-old was superb as Sunderland blunted Manchester City this week, making 11 clearances in the goalless draw at the Stadium of Light.Centre-back: Gabriel Magalhaes – ArsenalGabriel’s return for Arsenal is huge, and the Brazilian delivered on his first start since injury. Arsenal’s go-to set-piece target put the Gunners ahead from Bukayo Saka’s corner, while a brave moment to deny Youri Tielemans showcased his love of defending at the other end.Arsenal’s 4-1 win over Aston Villa was a huge statement, as the North Londoners extended their lead at the top.First start back from injury, and scores from a corner.GABRIEL. OF COURSE. pic.twitter.com/63I4nezpdU— B/R Football (@brfootball) December 30, 2025Left-back: Gabriel Gudmundsson – LeedsKept going against the lively Jeremie Frimpong. The Swede is all-action and appeared to get better as the game progressed against Liverpool. Always so eager to carry the ball forward and take Leeds up the pitch. That ability to relieve pressure was key as the visitors withstood a siege at Anfield. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});Midfield: James Garner – EvertonIt’s time Everton sorted out James Garner’s contract. The midfielder’s deal expires in the summer, though the Toffees have a one-year option to extend. The priority, however, needs to be a long-term deal.Garner has been brilliant this season and shone at Nottingham Forest, opening the scoring with a fine finish, before setting up Thierno Barry with a moment of real quality.James Garner masterclass. pic.twitter.com/AafkXpmBH3— Everton (@Everton) December 30, 2025Midfield: Bruno Guimaraes – NewcastleNewcastle needed three points at Burnley after recent results, and Bruno Guimaraes helped ensure the Magpies got them. The club captain covered plenty of ground at Turf Moor, battled brilliantly in midfield, and sealed the win from distance after a defensive mix-up from the home side. With Joelinton back alongside him and Sando Tonali, Newcastle looked a different beast.Midfield: Martin Odegaard – ArsenalBack-to-back inclusions for Martin Odegaard, who is clicking into his best form. The Norwegian was outstanding against Aston Villa, leading by example with his poise and creativity. He wonderfully carved open the visitors to set up Martin Zubimendi’s goal and was involved in Arsenal’s best moves throughout. His return to his best is good news for the Gunners.Martin x Martin Odegaard threads it through for a tidy Zubimendi finish pic.twitter.com/cLBQ1H8fdg— Arsenal (@Arsenal) December 31, 2025Forward: Jarrod Bowen – West HamNot for the first time, Bowen was a shining light for West Ham. The forward took his goal in the draw with Brighton brilliantly and was a constant nuisance to the Seagulls’ defence. If West Ham are to escape trouble, he will be key. The Hammers won’t be able to keep him if their survival bid fails. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});Forward: Leandro Trossard – ArsenalA top-class performance from the Belgian, who rarely lets Arsenal down. Trossard was threatening from the off against Aston Villa, and left Emi Martinez with no chance as he whipped in a finish for Arsenal’s third goal.Trossard then turned provider for Gabriel Jesus, to seal a big win for the table-toppers.What a year for Leandro Trossard Leading Arsenal in goals, assists, and goal contributions. pic.twitter.com/RD4RTsuDGu— Premier League USA (@PLinUSA) December 31, 2025Read – Enzo Maresca sacked: Truth behind Chelsea decision revealedSee more – Five early Premier League transfers to expect in January windowFollow The Football Faithful on Social Media:Facebook | Instagram | Twitter | YouTube | TikTokThe post Premier League Team of the Week – Alderete, Garner, Trossard first appeared on The Football Faithful.
