Thomas Frank has reacted to being booed by the travelling Tottenham Hotspur fans at the Gtech Community Stadium. The performance that Spurs fans witnessed at Brentford on Thursday is one they have seen plenty of times this season. While the Lilywhites were defensively solid and did not concede too many chances, they struggled as an attacking force, failing to even lay a glove on the home side. After the final whistle, Frank and the Tottenham players were booed when they went over to applaud the Spurs fans, and the 52-year-old admits it was difficult to hear that response.Photo by Glyn KIRK / AFP via Getty ImagesThomas Frank claims Tottenham were ‘excellent’ in one aspect against BrentfordFrank conceded that Spurs were not good enough going forward against the Bees, but insisted that the team’s excellent defensive displays needed to be acknowledged. He admitted that it was not a good feeling to be booed again by Tottenham fans, but he remains confident that Spurs will get better as an attacking force. When asked about the fans voicing their frustrations, Frank told Football.London: “Yeah, I think they seemed like they were not too satisfied and it’s fair when we don’t hit that top performance overall, but I think it’s double-sided because I think what we need to understand is the acknowledgement of the defensive side of the game, which we’ve done excellent today against a team that just scored three against Liverpool, three against Man Utd, so on and so on. But of course, the offensive part needs to be better. There’s no two ways about that.”When asked if it was difficult to hear the boos when he is trying to win over the supporters, the Dane responded: “Yeah, of course, you’d prefer everyone is happy and we’re winning 3-0. I think the understanding of where we are right now, as a team, and as a club. That’s the transparent view of it.“I think we have to play with Archie as a 10 – or I decided to do that – we did a little bit differently at the end of the game. That’s just step by step, we do those things. I’m very confident we will make it fluent and better and scoring enough goals. But with the amount of games and limited training times and the right offensive players available, that’s part of it, it’s no problem.”Frank was surprised by the reaction of Spurs fansThe Tottenham boss admitted that the reaction from the Spurs faithful on Thursday was surprising, given that the team had kept two back-to-back clean sheets away from home. However, he insisted that he would not be reading too much into the few boos ringing around the Gtech Community Stadium. When asked if Spurs fans need to be more understanding, Frank told Football.London: “That question is very difficult for me to answer, going off a few boos after the game, and as I say, I’m not really reading anything on social media, or articles or all that. I watch the team. I’m very aware that we are not where I want us to be. Very aware.”When asked if he was surprised at the response after what was a positive week in terms of results, the former Brentford boss responded: “I agree. I think… this league is so tight. Just look at the results today and two days ago. So tight, so even. Small margins that change games.“So I think we put a lot of foundation work into those two performances and the competitiveness you need to have in the team. Then we need to add the next layers. It’s not that we’re not working on it. It is what it is. I know we’ll get to where we want to go. Maybe not exactly where everyone wanted to be right now. But we’ll get there.”READ MORE: Brennan Johnson will love what Tottenham fans did to salute him on ThursdayThe post Thomas Frank explains why he was surprised by boos from Tottenham fans appeared first on Spurs Web.
