The Telangana Elite Action Group for Drug Law Enforcement (EAGLE) Force, in a joint operation with the Banjara Hills police, arrested a 47-year-old woman and seized MDMA and LSD blots from her near Road No. 3 in Banjara Hills as part of intensified anti-drug enforcement ahead of the New Year celebrations on Tuesday. The accused, identified as Hassa, a resident of Banjara Hills, was apprehended near a mobile phone shop in the area. Police said she tested positive for methamphetamine and amphetamine during medical examination. The seized contraband and the accused were handed over to the Banjara Hills police for further legal action.Investigation revealed that Hassa confessed to having developed links with a Goa-based drug supplier identified as Romi Bharath Kalyani during a visit to the coastal State in December 2024. She allegedly began procuring MDMA from him and continued to source narcotics during multiple visits to Goa in March, July, October and December 2025.Police said that during her most recent visit on December 26, 2025, the supplier allegedly handed over MDMA and LSD blots to her at Siolim and later in Mapusa. The accused also admitted that on some occasions, acquaintances from Hyderabad consumed MDMA along with her.The investigation has brought renewed focus on Romi Bharath Kalyani, a repeat offender under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, who was arrested earlier in multiple cases across Hyderabad, Mumbai and Goa. Earlier this year, he was arrested by the Golconda police in a case involving cocaine, MDMA and ecstasy pills and was released on bail in November. Police said efforts were underway to nab him.Officials said surveillance had revealed that the supplier procured drugs from Nigerian nationals and distributed them to Indian consumers through a wide network, including contacts in Hyderabad. His activities allegedly continued even during periods of incarceration, with associates managing operations.Appealing to the public, the police cautioned youth against falling prey to drugs in the name of party culture and celebrations, warning that substance abuse causes long-term harm to individuals, families and society.Published - December 30, 2025 06:17 pm IST
