In recent weeks, routine traffic inspections have been conducted on various roads across Malta and Gozo. These checks are carried out regularly at all times of the day, both during the day and at night, as the Police Force remains committed to ensuring the safety of everyone using our roads, whether drivers, passengers, or pedestrians.During these inspections, the vast majority of drivers were found to be compliant with traffic regulations. However, when violations were detected, immediate action was taken, and summons were issued as necessary.Between 1st and 30th December, a total of 271 roadchecks were carried out, during which 7,932 vehicles were stopped, 513 summonses were issued, and around 123 charges were filed. Meanwhile, four individuals were found to be driving under the influence of alcohol.During two separate inspections, the police arrested two people. In one case, officers noticed a vehicle failing to comply with instructions, with the driver engaging in dangerous driving. Shortly after, the driver abandoned the vehicle at the roadside and was later arrested. The driver appeared in court, admitted to the charges, and will be sentenced at a later date.Another driver was caught driving without a license twice in the same day. He pleaded not guilty and was granted bail.Among the violations detected in these days were drivers driving without a license or without insurance, carrying more passengers than permitted, and drivers not wearing a seatbelt. Several vehicles were also clamped because the driver failed to present a valid license.Traffic inspections will continue throughout the upcoming night and on the first day of the new year, and will continue throughout the year to ensure safer roads in Malta and Gozo.In fact, in the months prior, between 1st January and 30th November, a total of 2,711 roadchecks were carried out, 58,850 vehicles were stopped, and over 3,300 summonses were issued, while 43 people were found driving under the influence of alcohol. In addition to these inspections, in several localities, the police also distributed educational material to encourage people not to drive after drinking. This material was placed, among other locations, on parked vehicles. What do you make of these stops?•
