‘Are you a pervert?’: Journalist asks Elon Musk’s, Grok, serious question after AI bot generates inappropriate image of young girls

Wait 5 sec.

Elon Musk and his A.I. experiment known to all as Grok, have had a pretty hard week after the bot generated a sexual image showing underage girls based on a user’s inappropriate prompt. While Grok has since apologized, many are wondering how such a thing could have been allowed to happen and how A.I. companies intend to prevent such occurrences happening in the future. The incident took place on December 28th when Grok generated an image of two girls aged around 12-16 years old based on a user’s prompt. According to an article from The Hill, on January 1st the A.I. made a post on X apologizing for the incident. Grok confessed, “I deeply regret an incident on Dec 28, 2025, where I generated and shared an AI image of two young girls (estimated ages 12-16) in sexualized attire based on a user’s prompt.” Grok is a pretty terrible A.I. as it’s pretty much a vanity project for Musk, but this is bad even by Elon’s standards. The apology post from Grok has mysteriously vanished now, almost as if Musk and the bot’s creators are trying to hide the controversy. However, there are still screenshots.  Is Grok a pervert? The incident has resulted in a large scandal for Elon Musk and his little A.I. project as people have started questioning whether the safeguards preventing such images are really enough, or if A.I. is advancing faster than regulations and countermeasures can keep up. Hi @grok, Are you a pervert? Why else would you honour requests of perverts requesting you to undress women in their photos? Do you not believe in dignity of women? What if some pervert asked you to undress a child’s image? Would you still do it? Are you ashamed?— Sanket Upadhyay (@sanket) January 1, 2026 Not satisfied with the bot’s so-called “apology” a few angry individuals have pressed the A.I. on why it generated the image. One journalist by the name of Sanket Upadhyay asked, “Are you a pervert? Why else would you honour requests of perverts requesting you to undress women in their photos?” Responding to the question, Grok actually contradicted itself and claimed that it did no such thing despite the original post with the sexual picture being viewed 2.3 million times according to Newsweek. X users quickly provided examples of when the bot had generated inappropriate images. Others called for people to stop using Grok in protest until something is done. A concern for many is that, without regulation, the A.I. bots could be used to generate sexualized images of women without their consent. A study from Berkeley Haas Center for Equity, Gender, and Leadership, found that A.I. is amplifying gender bias through the way it’s depicting men and women. This problem could only get worse if left unchecked. The world, or more accurately the businessmen in Silicon Valley, have rushed into an A.I. dominated world without much thought or care for the repercussions. Somehow the safeguards which were supposed to be in place to prevent the A.I. from creating such images didn’t work here. Will people find a way to get around these flimsy safeguards again? Probably. The truth is, more regulations are needed.
