Samsung's Exynos chipsets are primarily known because the company uses them in its Galaxy smartphones. Some of you may be aware that it also makes Exynos chips for other devices, including wearables and even automobiles. If a new report is to be believed, Samsung may have discontinued its Exynos chip business for automobiles. A report out of South Korea has claimed that Samsung has suspended development of the next-generation chip. There's also the possibility that Samsung may close down the Exynos Auto business.However, a Samsung official quoted in the report said that the automotive chip division isn't being absorbed in the mobile division, and that the auto chip business continues to exist.The report further adds that employees previously involved in Exynos Auto projects have now been transferred to other jobs within Samsung, with some finding their way to the new software innovation organization within the semiconductor division and others being reassigned to mobile chipsets. Samsung started supplying chipsets under the Exynos Auto brand back in 2018. It counts major car manufacturers like Audi, BMW, Volkswagen, Ferrari, and Tesla among its customers. Exynos Auto V720 is its current main offering which BMW is expected to use in its upcoming iX3 electric vehicle.The company has reportedly halted mass production of the next-generation Exynos Auto V920 chip due to a lack of customers and other factors. There may be other factors, but it's also true that all of this might be due to some temporary realignment of business objectives.
