‘Hammers me’ – Ryan Searle names dream World Darts Championship final opponent

Wait 5 sec.

Ryan Searle isn’t ready to stop dreaming amid his best-ever run at the World Darts Championship.Searle booked his spot in the quarter-finals at the Alexandra Palace with a resounding 4-0 win over James Hurrell and will next face either No. 5 seed Jonny Clayton or Swedish debutant Andreas Harrysson.Searle has finally gone beyond the fourth round in his eighth World Championship appearanceGettyThe whitewash victory meant Searle is still yet to drop a set at this year’s tournament, a remarkable feat which Luke Littler can no longer lay claim to after his 4-1 win over Rob Cross on Monday.Searle’s triumph also meant he is into the last eight at the World Championship for the first time, having previously been knocked out in the fourth round on three occasions.Although he needs two more wins to earn a shot at the world title and the eye-watering £1million prize that comes with it, Searle wasn’t shy when declaring who he wants to face at the last hurdle.“I think it would be good if me and Gary [Anderson] played each other in the final, just because we practice together,” Searle said. “It would have to be different from our practice sessions because he hammers me. “Obviously if me and Gary played each other, it would be fantastic. “Whoever it is, it will be cool. But I can’t look any further than my next game.”Anderson is no stranger to the latter stages of the World Championship given he is a two-time winner and has reached the semi-finals on seven occasions. The 55-year-old is also the last man to have won back-to-back world titles, which he did so in 2015 and 2016.Anderson and Searle have already faced off this year, with ‘The Flying Scotsman’ demolishing his practice pal 6-0 at the Players Championship 5 in March.View Tweet: https://t.co/1eai2YnOaKGettyAnderson’s last appearance in a World Championship final was in 2021[/caption]For Anderson to reach a sixth World Championship final, he must first navigate the tricky task of No. 3 seed Michael van Gerwen in the fourth round.Another potential opponent in the final for Searle is Luke Humphries.Similarly to Anderson, Humphries is a player Searle knows well.Searle even has the upper hand over Humphries, but unfortunately it is not on the oche.Instead, it’s in the popular video game Call of Duty.“We had a few games in the week,” Searle said after his third round victory over Martin Schindler.‘Heavy Metal’ is hoping for one of two familiar faces at the final hurdleGetty“I’d say I’m a bit better than Luke at Call of Duty. I need to catch up on the darts.“Luke’s a different animal. Obviously, the two Lukes are the people that everyone’s trying to catch up to and that’s the standard that we all sort of strive for.“I would have to play like I did today just to get anywhere near them and it’s something I’m working on.”With Searle in the top half of the bracket alongside Littler, his other potential opponents in the final include Justin Hood, Josh Rock, Kevin Doets, Charlie Manby or Gian van Veen.
