Hi everyone, I’m 18 and Indian considering moving to Johannesburg to pursue my helicopter licenses (PPL and CPL). I’ve decided on South Africa cuz while I can afford training in the US, the current political and visa environment there makes me hesitant. South Africa seems like a strong alternative in terms of aviation training quality and cost, but before making a decision, I wanted some honest, ground level perspectives from people who live in or around Joburg. My main concerns are: Safety (day-to-day living, especially for a student) Racism or discrimination, particularly toward Indians/foreigners Living conditions (housing, transport, general lifestyle) How different life in Joburg might feel compared to New Delhi, where I currently live I’m not expecting a perfect place , just trying to understand whether moving here for 1.5 to 2 years of flight training is a reasonable and practical option. If anyone has experience with aviation training, international students, or simply life in Joburg, I’d really appreciate your insights.
