Written by Arun SharmaJammu | January 1, 2026 09:54 PM IST 2 min readSources said the cricketer, Furqan Bhat, was taking part in a tournament called the Jammu and Kashmir Champions League (Photo - Unsplash)A cricketer from South Kashmir, who played in a local tournament allegedly while wearing a helmet with the Palestinian flag printed on it, was on Thursday called by police in Jammu for questioning.While senior police officers did not respond to requests for a comment on the matter, sources said the organiser of the cricket tournament was also summoned to the Domana police station.Sources said the cricketer, Furqan Bhat, was taking part in a tournament called the Jammu and Kashmir Champions League, organised by one Sajid Bhat, who is also from Kashmir, at a private ground on the outskirts of Jammu city.Furqan Bhat was representing a team called JK11, and he came out to bat during the fourth over of a match against Jammu Trailblazers on Wednesday.A video purportedly showing him wearing a helmet with the Palestinian flag printed on it went viral on social media on Thursday.Both men were then summoned by police to Domana police station, sources said.Brigadier Anil Gupta, the official in charge of the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA), said the tournament was privately organised.Story continues below this ad“The JKCA has nothing to do with this tournament. It is a privately organised event which involves local players, and strangely, even spectators are not allowed. The incident was brought to our attention, but it is being handled by the local police.
