Why are there only eight live matches tonight?Ahead of Thursday’s action, though, all 72 clubs will play their final match of the year on Monday night.Of those fixtures, eight have been selected for live coverage across Sky Sports. The EFL explained in a statement that this is due to the fixtures being ‘displaced Saturday matches’.As a result, the scheduling sees their usual number of matches chosen for live broadcast as a regular weekend matchday.Fixtures played on Saturday with a 3pm kick-off cannot be broadcast live in the UK due to the 3pm blackout. It comes into effect when half of the matches in the Premier League and Championship are scheduled for 3pm on a Saturday.Shutterstock EditorialTonight’s fixtures are ‘displaced Saturday matches’, the EFL revealed as they explained the TV selections[/caption]EFL statement on fixtures“With the festive season in full swing, there’s plenty of EFL action to watch this Christmas and New Year with 88 games set to be broadcast live on Sky Sports. “Fans in the UK can watch every single New Year’s Day match live on Sky Sports, with various international broadcast and streaming options available to supporters around the world.“A full round of fixtures takes place on Monday, 29 December, with eight of those games selected for live coverage on Sky Sports.“These games are displaced Saturday matches, so reflect the usual number of TV selections for a Saturday fixture list.“The New Year begins in style, as every EFL match on New Year’s Day will be broadcast live in the UK on Sky Sports.“Sky Bet Championship action gets underway at 12.30pm, when Wrexham travel to Blackburn Rovers on Sky Sports Football.“The day concludes with Sheffield United hosting Leicester City at 5.30pm, also live on Sky Sports Football.”Monday night’s EFL action will be headlined by the opening match of the evening between Coventry City and Ipswich Town. The Championship leaders face the side in third place, with kick-off at 6pm, live on talkSPORT 2.To listen on the talkSPORT website, click HERE for the livestream.Alternatively, you can tune in via the talkSPORT app here, on DAB digital radio, through your smart speaker and on 1089 or 1053 AM.Frank Lampard’s side head into the match eight points clear at the top of the table, with Ipswich already 13 points adrift of the leaders.GettyThe action will be headlined by Coventry vs Ipswich, live on talkSPORT 2[/caption]EFL matches live on TV tonightChampionship:Coventry vs Ipswich, 6pm – Live on Sky Sports Football & talkSPORT 2Leicester vs Derby, 7.45pm – Live on Sky Sports+Sheffield Wednesday vs Blackburn, 7.45pm – Live on Sky Sports+Birmingham vs Southampton, 8.15pm – Live on Sky Sports FootballLeague One:Bradford vs Port Vale, 7.45pm – Live on Sky Sports+Plymouth vs Wycombe, 7.45pm – Live on Sky Sports+League Two:Grimsby vs Shrewsbury, 7.45pm – Live on Sky Sports+Tranmere vs Barrow, 7.45pm – Live on Sky Sports+Further EFL coverage comes later this week with live commentary from Blackburn Rovers vs Wrexham on New Year’s Day.Adrian Durham will be presenting the action on talkSPORT with GameDay Live from 12pm.
