Mpigi District Not Growing Because of Bad Leaders – Museveni

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has urged voters in Mpigi District to take a firm stand against leaders who fail to deliver, calling on the electorate to recall non-performing representatives and hold them accountable.Addressing a campaign rally in Mpigi on Monday, the President, who is also the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Presidential flagbearer for the 2026 general elections, said citizens should not tolerate absentee or ineffective leaders after entrusting them with power.“Now I have a suggestion—what we call the right to recall. If a leader fails to deliver results, we recall him or her before the end of the term,” Museveni said, noting that such a provision previously existed during the time of the National Resistance Council (NRC) and could be reinstated through the Constitution. The President, accompanied by the First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, Maama Janet Museveni, made the remarks following reports of absenteeism among opposition leaders holding elective positions in Mpigi. He reminded voters that they already possess the authority to choose their leaders and must also demand performance from them.“You elect LCIs, LCIIIs, LCVs and Members of Parliament, but when they assume office, some forget about you. Instead of waiting for five years, we can recall them if they fail to deliver,” he said.Museveni added that even before a formal recall law is enacted, citizens have a responsibility to report non-performing leaders so that existing accountability mechanisms can take effect.“You report them and see what I will do to them,” he warned. The President further blamed the electorate for voting in ideologically disoriented opposition politicians who later fail to provide services, urging residents to make informed choices in future elections.Beyond accountability, Museveni also addressed land matters, encouraging residents to use existing land laws to protect their tenure and pledging to fast-track compensation for landlords. He emphasized that the NRM government clearly defined the rights of tenants and landlords at its inception. On development, the President pledged to establish a Presidential industrial skilling hub in Greater Mpigi to equip youth with practical skills, alongside another hub in Greater Luwero. He also committed to setting up a district general hospital in Mpigi, establishing a ferry service for Buyiga Islanders, and constructing a public market for the district.Maama Janet Museveni urged residents to convert the large rally turnout into actual votes on polling day and called on voters to reject opposition rhetoric that, she said, undermines service delivery.Meanwhile, the NRM Second National Vice Chairperson and Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Anita Among, highlighted key development achievements by the NRM government in Mpigi, while the NRM Vice Chairperson for the Central Region, Hon. Haruna Kasolo, criticized opposition leaders for corruption tendencies that have stalled development.Kasolo appealed to voters to support NRM flag bearers at all levels to ensure improved and accountable service delivery in Mpigi District. The post Mpigi District Not Growing Because of Bad Leaders – Museveni appeared first on The Insider.
