On New Year’s Eve in Ahmedabad, 353 people arrested for consumption, possession of liquor, say police

By: Express News ServiceRajkot | January 1, 2026 08:55 PM IST 2 min readThe Ahmedabad City Police on the intervening night of December 31, 2025 and January 1, 2026, arrested and detained a total of 353 people for offences related to driving, liquor consumptions and possession of liquor.The Ahmedabad City Police had, in anticipation of large crowds and celebrations across the city on the New Year, deployed 5,000 Constabulary, 3,500 Home Guards, two Companies of the State Reserve Police, 225 Sub Inspectors, 115 Inspectors, 28 Assistant Commissioners (ACP), 16 Deputy Commissioners (DCP) and five senior officers of Additional or Joint Commissioner rank.There were nine Quick Response Teams, 123 police vehicles, four teams of the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS), 71 SHE teams and 34 cranes.The police were digitally complemented by 4,000 CCTV cameras, 2,560 body-worn cameras of which 238 had a live feed to the control room, 443 breath analysers and 39 speed gun cameras. They had set up 63 nakabandi points, and 14 check posts across the entry and exits of the city.As a result, a total of 69 persons were booked for driving vehicles under the influence of alcohol, under section 185 of the Motor Vehicles Act.Further, a total of 123 persons were booked for consumption of alcohol in as many cases, and 54 persons in 44 cases were booked for possession of illegal possession.In total, 246 people were arrested and 107 detained by the city police.Stay updated with the latest - Click here to follow us on Instagram© The Indian Express Pvt LtdTags:ahmedabadNew Year
