Officials said each library will be built at an estimated cost of Rs 35 lakh and will cover an area of around 1,800 square feet.Designed with a focus on accessibility and modern facilities, the libraries will feature separate ladies’ restrooms and pantry facilities. According to MC officials, construction of the buildings will be completed in the first phase, followed by the installation of books, furniture and other essential equipment in the subsequent stage.“This initiative will enhance access to reading and learning spaces in the newly developed sectors of the city,” an MC official said. “The project is aimed at promoting a culture of education and self-learning, particularly among students and youth preparing for competitive examinations.”Mohali already has an expanding public library network. Earlier, the Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA) had constructed libraries in the Rise garden of Phases 3B1, Bougainvillea Garden Phase 4, Phase 6, Silvi Park in Phase 10 and Neighbourhood Park Phase 11, as well as in Sector 69 and Kargil Park in Sector 70, which were later handed over to the Municipal Corporation. These libraries are currently being operated and maintained by the MC.Officials said the addition of four new libraries in sectors 77 to 80 will strengthen Mohali’s educational ecosystem, especially in rapidly developing residential areas. “The new facilities will provide students, researchers and general readers with a quiet, well-equipped environment close to their homes, reducing the need to travel to distant parts of the city,” an official added. With adequate seating, a peaceful ambience and modern amenities, the new libraries are expected to emerge as key knowledge hubs in the new sectors of Mohali.Stay updated with the latest - Click here to follow us on Instagram© The Indian Express Pvt Ltd
