The Reserve Bank of India said 98.41 per cent of Rs 2,000 banknotes in circulation have been returned since their withdrawal was announced in May 2023. The value of these notes has fallen from Rs 3.56 lakh crore on May 19, 2023, to Rs 5,669 crore as of December 31, 2025.
