I feel like this doesn’t fit r/choosingbeggars. Buy Nothing groups are for exactly this sort of ask: “before I spend hundreds of dollars on a new one, why not ask around if anyone local has one to give?” And she acknowledges it’s a huge ask, she’s not demanding anything. Stuff for small children is really popular on Buy Nothing since kids cycle out of stuff so quickly. I’ve received and given some genuinely pricey stuff on these types of groups, that’s the whole point.
