Marking the start of the New Year, Opposition Leader Alex Borg shared a message focused on hope, respect, and courage, saying that Malta’s future is one that must be built together. He acknowledged the challenges many Maltese and Gozitans face daily, from the rising cost of living and housing struggles to wages that no longer keep up with the realities of life.Borg highlighted the strength of Malta’s people and institutions, praising entrepreneurs, educators, healthcare workers, and communities grounded in solidarity and shared values. “We need a politics that seizes the moment. This is the kind of politics I want to work for, politics that talks less and listens more. In the year ahead, I will focus even more on what truly makes a difference,” he said, promising that the PN will push forward proposals aimed at addressing everyday struggles while pursuing reforms that ensure fair wages and productivity. Progress rooted in values. I believe in tradition. I believe in a Malta that is proud of its past and a Malta that is not afraid of the future. I will continue to work constructively, criticising when necessary while always putting forward proposals. I will remain steadfast and, above all, I will continue to offer my help whenever it is needed,” he said, pledging to continue offering constructive criticism, practical proposals, and his support to those who feel disillusioned by politics. He closed his message with a call for unity and optimism: “I am with you. This is our moment. May the New Year bring us closer to a Malta that is fairer, stronger and more compassionate.”Alex Borg also took the opportunity to wish all Maltese and Gozitans a happy and successful 2026.•
