Uganda continues to earn big from coffee exportsUganda’s coffee exports in September 2025, totaled to 844,949 bags worth US$218.6million UGX766.7billion).According to Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries (MAAIF) Monthly Coffee Report for September 2025, this comprised of 771,704 bags of Robusta valued at US$190million (UGX666.5billion) and 73,245 bags of Arabica valued at US$28.5million (UGX100.1billion).This was an increase of 56.1% and 48.2% in quantity and value respectively compared to the same month last year.Compared to the same month of last year (September2024), the report says, Robusta increased by 50.2% and 35.8% in quantity and value respectively, and Arabica exports increased by 166.2%% and 280.2% in quantity and value respectively.According to the report, coffee export volume was higher than the previous year on account of increased coffee production as harvest in Central and Eastern regions is already underway.“Coffee prices at the global scene improved as concerns regarding supply of coffee into the USA, due to uncertainty of the proposed 50% tariffs on goods entering the country from Brazil saw stocks starting to deplete,” MAAIF’s report says.It adds that coffee exports for twelve months (Coffee Year 2024/2025) totaled 8.2million bags worth US$2.3billion (UGX8.1Trillion) compared to 6.4million bags worth US$1.4billion (UGX4.9trillion) in the previous year (Coffee year 2023/2024).This represents an increase of 29.6% and 64.1% in quantity and value respectively.Exports by Type and GradeThe report reveals that the average export price was US$4.31 per kilogram, US cents 36 higher than in August 2025 (US$3.95).It was US$ cents 23 lower than in September 2024 (US$ 4.54 /kilogram Robusta exports accounted for 91 of total exports, lower than 93 in August 2025.The average Robusta price was US$4.10 per kilogram, 32 cents higher than US$3.78 per kilo the previous month.The highest price was for Screen 17 Robusta sold at US 4 62 per kilogram, followed by Screen 1 4 sold at US 4 22 per kilogram.The share of Sustainable/washed coffee to total Robusta exports was 0. 33 slightly higher than 0 .30 in July 2025.The report says Arabica fetched a n average price of US$6.50 per kilogram US$ cents 20 higher than the previous month (US$6.30).The highest price was for Rwenzori C/PB sold at US$9.83 per kilogram I t was followed by Bugisu AB sold at US$7.93 per kilo gram.Drugar was sold at US$ 6.34 per kilogram, 14 cents lower than US$ 6.48 per kilogram the previous month.According to the report, Drugar exports were 52 of total Arabica exports lower that 47 the previous month.The share of sustainable Arabica exports to total Arabica exports was 7 lower than 14 in August 2025.Individual Exporter PerformanceMAAIF’s report indicates that Ugacof (U) Ltd had the highest market share of 10.60% compared to 7.13% in August 2025.It was followed by Kyagalanyi Coffee Ltd 10.40% (8.73%), Olam UgandaLtd 9.35% (8.26%), Touton Uganda Limited 7.55% (2.94%), Ideal quality Commodities Ltd 6.94% (7.48%), Jber Coffee Ltd 6.29% (7.63%), Louis Dreyfus Company (U) Ltd 5.68% (2.70%), Export Trading Company (U) Ltd 4.62% (8.61%), JKCC General Supplies Ltd 3.99% (4.00%) and Ibero (U)Ltd 3.64% (4.78%).Note: The figures in brackets represent percentage market share held in August 2025.According to the report, the top 10 exporters held a market share of 6 9 higher than 6 4 the previous month reflecting competition at exporter level Out of the 78 exporters who exported, 48 exported Robusta Coffee only while 11 exported Arabica coffee only.Coffee Exports By DestinationItaly maintained the highest market share with 25.63% compared to 29.27% last month.It was followed by Germany 13.04% (10.02%), Morocco 7.52% (3.93%), Sudan 6.79% (13.13%) and Algeria 5.95% (5.38%).It’s important to note that the figures in brackets represent percentage market share held in August 2025.The first 10 major destinations of Uganda coffee took a market share of 77.90% compared to 79.59% the previous month.Coffee exports to African countries totaled 182, 441 bags, a market share of 22 compared to 195 858 bags 23 the previous month.The report reveals that African countries that imported Uganda coffee included Morocco Sudan Algeria Egypt, Tunisia, South Africa, Kenya Senegal and Nigeria.Europe remained the main destination for Uganda’s coffees with a 61% import share, lower than 62% in August 2025.Foreign buyers of Uganda CoffeeAccording to the report, the top 10 buyers held a market share of 54.25% lower than 43.81% the previous month.Sucafina led with a market share of 11.43% compared to 7.01% in August 2025.It was followed by Olam International with 10.32% (8.76%), Touton SA 7.88% (3.29%), Louis Dreyfus 6.361% (3.64%), Ecom Agro Industrialist 4.14% (3.00%), Bernhard Rothfos 3.77% (6.02%), Volcafe 3.53% (3.81%), GRB 2.64% (31.24%), Koninklijke Douwe Egberts 2.64% (3.75%) and Strauss 1.53% (1.66%).Note: The figures in brackets represent percentage market share held in August 2025.Global SituationWorld coffee production for 2025/26 is forecast to be 4.3 million bags higher than the previous year to a record 178.7 million due to continued recovery in Vietnam and Indonesia as well as record output in Ethiopia.World coffee bean exports are forecast 700,000 bags higher to 122.3 million as gains from Vietnam, Ethiopia, and Indonesia more than offset losses from Brazil and Colombia.Global consumption is forecast at 169.4 million bags, while ending inventories September 2025, farm gate prices ranged from UGX6,000-7,000 per kilogram of Kiboko (Robusta dry cherries); UGX 13,500-14000 for FAQ (Fair Average Quality); UGX 14,000-15,000 for Arabica Parchment and UGX13,500-14,000 per kilogram for Drugar.Robusta Kiboko averaged UGX 6,500 higher than UGX5,250, Robusta FAQ averaged UGX13,750 higher than UGX10,250, Arabica parchment UGX14,500 per kilogram, higher than UGX 13,750 per kilogram the previous month, Drugar UGX13,750 per kilogram lower than UGX12,500 per kilogram the previous month.Outlook for October 2025MAAIF says Uganda’s coffee exports are projected to reach 850,000 60 kilo bags in October 2025.
