Journalist Pete O’Rourke has revealed whether he expects Tottenham to be successful in their pursuit of a Premier League centre-forward during the January window. The number nine role has been a problem area for Frank amid Dominic Solanke’s injury troubles this season.Randal Kolo Muani has also had fitness issues, while neither the experienced Richarlison nor the young Mathys Tel have made the position their own.According to reports, Spurs were willing to submit a sizable deadline-day offer for Jean-Philippe Mateta in the summer, but Crystal Palace did not entertain their interest.Photo by Molly Darlington/Getty ImagesTottenham told they have to wait to sign Jean-Philippe MatetaIt has been suggested over recent months that Tottenham may be able to get Jean-Philippe Mateta for a little over £40m in January, but Pete O’Rourke does not agree. The journalist has said that the Eagles would not want to lose their main number nine mid-season, but explained that they may be forced into a sale next summer if he does not sign a new deal. When asked about Tottenham’s interest in the France international, O’Rourke told Football Insider: “He’s been instrumental in Palace‘s success in the last 18 months with 17 goals last season, 46 appearances, he’s carried that fine form into this season.“Spurs have been there with a number of strikers in recent weeks and months. It does seem like it’s an area of the team they would like to strengthen. Mateta could be a good fit for them and everything, but I don’t see any deal happening in January.“I think all interested parties in Mateta might have to wait till the summer because I don’t think Palace would let him go in January. And if he doesn’t sign a new contract before next summer, then that might increase the possibility of the player moving on and Palace being open to an offer for him.”Spurs are eyeing two more European strikersAccording to reports, Tottenham are eyeing a move for a Juventus centre-forward, Dusan Vlahovic, who is in the final year of his contract at the Allianz Stadium. In fact, some sources have even named Spurs as Vlahovic’s most likely destination in January.Additionally, the Lilywhites are allegedly monitoring the situation of Porto striker Samu Aghehowa, who is thought to have a release clause of £87m in his contract. It has been claimed that Fabio Paratici will spearhead Tottenham’s pursuit of Aghehowa, with the Lilywhites’ sporting director said to be a big fan of the Spaniard.READ MORE: Tottenham draw six-man midfielder shortlist ahead of the January transfer windowThe post Tottenham told they will have to wait to sign Premier League striker after latest hat-trick appeared first on Spurs Web.
