Splendora Best Of The Bafferts In Filly & Mare Sprint

Wait 5 sec.

One of three Bob Baffert entries in Saturday's GI PNC Bank Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Sprint, SPLENDORA (f, 4, Audible–Miss Freeze, by Frost Giant) got the upper hand from her favored stablemate Hope Road (Quality Road) at the top of the stretch and powered clear to romp home by open lengths. In a race that changed dramatically early in the day with the announced scratch of both Sweet Azteca (Sharp Azteca) and Tamara (Bolt d'Oro), the 5-2 shot was the middle wagering choice of the three Baffert runners with Hope Road going off at even money and Richi (Chi) (Practical Joke) attracting milder interest outside at 4-1.Positioned behind the early speed in mid pack as the favorite led narrowly in a three-wide charge up front, Splendora stayed tucked in behind that trio until the quarter pole before tipping out and surging past her stablemate with little resistance. Vahva (Gun Runner) made up enough ground through the stretch to get into second but the winner was home clear under Flavien Prat in a final time of 1:21.79. Hope Road checked in third.O-By Talla Racing LLC; B-The Elkstone Group LLC; T-Bob Baffert.
