Jaxson Dart has fired a cheeky jab at his teammate Russell Wilson’s age. The New York Giants rookie quarterback – who has cracked the top 20 in talkSPORT’s latest quarterback rankings – took to the podium for his Wednesday media availability. Jaxson Dart threw some cheeky shade at his much older teammateGettyAhead of Sunday’s clash against the San Francisco 49ers, he got candid about his relationships with his fellow members of the quarterback room in Wilson and Jameis Winston.“I kind of see it as, I’ve got two big brothers in the room,” Dart said. “Russ might reach a little bit of unc status a little bit. But they’re both my big brothers out there.“The wisdom they shed off of me is huge. They’ve done it for a long time, and they’ve succeeded at the highest level. I’m in a very unique situation to have those guys.“We have great relationships off the field too. So, really just blessed and grateful to have those guys in the room.”The 22-year-old signal caller out of Ole Miss became the Giants’ starting quarterback in Week 4, perhaps far earlier than he had initially envisioned.Despite the Super Bowl XLVIII champion’s historic 450 yards and three touchdown performance in the Giants’ 40-37 overtime loss to the Dallas Cowboys in Week 2 which left his teammates ‘amazed’, the 36-year-old’s other performances were underwhelming. With New York 0-3 to start the 2025 campaign and the MetLife Stadium fans booing him off the field, head coach Brian Daboll was left with no choice but to bench veteran Wilson in favor of the Giants’ first-round quarterback selection. Dart was thrown into the deep end with his debut coming against a tough opponent in the Los Angeles Chargers, but recorded his first win, and the franchise’s first of the 2025 NFL season, nonetheless. In the Giants’ devastating 33-32 loss to the Denver Broncos in Week 7 with Dart under center, Broncos head coach Sean Payton fired a less-subtle dig at Wilson of his own, where he stated that he wished his team didn’t come up against the rookie. Meanwhile, Winston, a former Pro Bowler, has not yet had a sniff under center since signing for the Giants in the off-season, but has done his best motivating on the sidelines, hyping up his teammates to go out and be their best in the locker room. In his young career so far, the 22-year-old has completed 59.9 percent of his passes for 984 passing yards, eight passing touchdowns and three interceptions. A quarterback who is also good with his feet, Dart has tallied an additional 195 yards on the ground from 43 attempts and rushed into the end zone for four scores. He and rookie running back Cam Skattebo were beginning to form quite the duo, with the wild fourth-round pick out of Arizona State beginning to ignite Big Blue’s offense, rushing for 410 yards and five touchdowns, as well as notching 207 receiving yards for two scores.But disaster struck on Sunday when Skattebo suffered a gruesome ankle injury when attempting to make a catch in the middle of the field against the Philadelphia Eagles.It has prompted the Giants to slide to 28 in talkSPORT’s Super Bowl contender rankings – for 2025 at least – but hopes are high that the duo can return Big Blue to the postseason.Malik Nabers’ season was ended before it really took off after suffering an ACL injury back at the start of the seasonGettyAfter undergoing successful surgery in Philadelphia with the injury ending his rookie campaign prematurely, reports emerged from Daboll that Skattebo was already “wheeling around” the practice facility as he seeks to do what he can to help his teammates out from the sidelines.When asked about his teammate’s presence around the team on Wednesday, Dart – who was emotional about his teammate’s injury in the immediate aftermath – said, “That was good.“I think that’s kind of just be how he is. Like, he’s going to hate sitting at home and whatnot, so I’m sure he’ll be around here a lot. It’s good to see his face for sure.”Skattebo isn’t the only star player Dart has to contend without, with second-year wide receiver Malik Nabers also out for the year after suffering a torn ACL earlier in October. Although, Dart has limited offensive weapons to target going forward, he has still shown that he is relentless in his pursuit to help transform the Giants back to winning ways, and that is only expected to continue.
