Two illegal firearms and live rounds were recovered from their possession, effectively solving a case registered on October 15, officers said.The accused, identified as Prince (22) and Sumit Rana (25), were arrested late on October 31 during a coordinated operation by the Northern Range-II (NR-II) unit of the Crime Branch, officers added.According to police, Prince has 14 previous cases against him, while Rana has been involved in four criminal cases in Delhi and Haryana.The arrests followed specific intelligence received by Head Constable Vikas Dabas that two armed men affiliated with the Priyavart Kala gang were planning a robbery in Rohini’s Sector 27, said police.Acting on the tip-off, the police team laid a trap near Kendriya Vidyalaya in Sector 27. Around 11:15 pm on Friday, the accused arriving from Khera Khurd were intercepted and found carrying two country-made pistols and two live rounds, police said.Police said both men were wanted in a case registered at Kanjhawala police station under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Arms Act, in connection with a firing incident at a shop in Qutab Garh on October 14. “The accused opened fire to instill fear and assert dominance in the area at the behest of their gang leader,” said DCP Crime Branch, Pankaj Kumar.During questioning, Prince allegedly told police he had dropped out after Class 12 and joined the gang through Priyavart alias Kala, a known associate of jailed gangster Kala Jathedi.Story continues below this adAccording to police, Prince had previously carried out a firing in Moti Nagar in 2023 on Priyavart’s instructions. “Priyavart Kala, who is currently in jail under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA), used to meet them during court appearances and directed them to maintain the gang’s supremacy in their area for extortion,” Kumar added.Rana, police said, came into contact with Prince and another associate, Ashu, while studying in Katewada and began accompanying them in gang activities.A fresh case has been registered under the Arms Act at the Crime Branch police station for illegal possession of firearms.
