Chenthamara verdict postponed to Saturday

The Additional District and Sessions Court-IV here has postponed the verdict in the Sajitha murder case until Saturday. Judge Kenneth George convicted Chenthamara for the murder on Tuesday and postponed sentencing to Thursday. However, the verdict was further deferred to Saturday.Besides the Sajitha murder case, Chenthamara is accused in the high-profile double murder of a mother and son at Pothundy in January this year.Chenthamara attended Thursday’s trial proceedings through videoconferencing from Viyyur Central Jail. When the prosecution sought capital punishment for Chenthamara, the defence lawyer argued that the verdict on the 2019 Sajitha murder should not be influenced by the double murder that took place in 2025.Chenthamara’s counsel argued that he had never been involved even in a petty case before the Sajitha murder case.Chenthamara gained notoriety after he, while on bail, killed Sajitha’s widower Sudhakaran and his mother Lakshmi on January 27, 2025. He murdered Sajitha in 2019 and the mother-son pair in 2025, suspecting their involvement in his wife’s desertion.Although the police had submitted the chargesheet of the Sajitha murder case in 2020, the trial began in August 2025.
