(Pic: twinkle/Instagram)Actor Shefali Shah’s journey in Bollywood hasn’t been linear. Despite earning praise for her performances in critically acclaimed films like Monsoon Wedding and Waqt, the actor didn’t receive her due in Hindi cinema for a long time. Her career took a remarkable turn when she was offered the web show Delhi Crime, which became a breakthrough moment. Recently, Shefali sat down for a candid conversation with Twinkle Khanna, during which the latter recalled how Shefali once broke down over the lack of good opportunities in Bollywood.Speaking on her YouTube channel Tweak India, Twinkle remembered the incident and said, “Shefali is also an old friend and at one point, we were sitting in my garden and she was upset that she wasn’t getting the kind of work she should be getting. She was crying. But since every story has to have some sort of twist, we heard a rustle in the bushes and it turned out to be my son, who was holding a video tape, recording this whole thing. So some people have a sex tape floating around… she has a sobbing tape.” To this, Shefali joked, “Maybe we should put it out now, I will get popular.”Early in her career, Shefali played the role of a mother in Waqt, where she portrayed Akshay Kumar’s mother despite being younger than him. She again took on a mother’s role in Dil Dhadakne Do. However, after starring in the Zoya Akhtar film, Shefali consciously decided to stop accepting such parts to avoid getting stereotyped. Also read | Kantara Chapter 1 box office collection day 11: Rishab Shetty’s film surpasses Saiyaara to become 2025’s 2nd highest grosser; earns Rs 438.42 croreShe said, “After Dil Dhadakne Do, I made a strategic decision that I don’t want to play mother to people who are just a couple of years younger than me. After Dil Dhadakne Do, I was offered Neerja and Kapoor and Sons and I loved the script of both the films, but I felt that if I do this this is going to be the end for me. There has been probably more waiting than acting in my career. And while I was waiting Mukesh Chhabra, the casting director, called me and he came up with this part (Delhi Crime) and within first five minutes of meeting Richie Mehta (director of Delhi Crime), I said yes to the show.”Delhi Crime also starred Rasika Dugal, Adil Hussain, and Rajesh Tailang. The show went on to make history by becoming the first Indian series to win the award for Best Drama Series at the International Emmy Awards held in 2020.
