3 college students behind jewellery store robbery, wanted money for gaming: police

By: Express News ServiceMumbai | October 17, 2025 12:25 AM IST 2 min readThe two persons arrested for robbery at a jewellery store in Ghatkopar were college students, police said, adding that they suspect that the accused wanted the money for gaming.The two college students, Tanish Bhaisade and Suraj Yadav, both aged 20, were  picked up from a gaming zone by the police and produced before a court on Thursday.The duo was remanded in police custody for a week, while another accused, who is also a college student,  is still on the run.A police source said that prima facie it appears that the accused were into gaming and even after the robbery, they went to a gaming zone.“While they are not confirming the motive, we suspect the trio, all BCom students, wanted money to fund their gaming habit,” an official said.Sources said that as of now, the two arrested are claiming that it was the third accused who had provided the firearm that had been used in the robbery.The police have also recovered the stolen ornaments from the accused.Story continues below this adThe incident had taken place on Wednesday morning when three persons entered Darshan Jewellers in Ghatkopar armed with a chopper and a gun.As they were about to flee with some of the trays containing the jewellery, the store owner Darshan Medhkar tried to stop them, one of the accused attacked him on the neck with a chopper before fleeing.Medhkar was rushed to hospital and was later discharged.Stay updated with the latest - Click here to follow us on Instagram© The Indian Express Pvt LtdTags:Mumbai
