SWR and NCW jointly conduct anti-human trafficking workshop in Bengaluru

The South Western Railway (SWR) and the National Commission for Women (NCW), New Delhi, jointly organised a one-day workshop on “Anti-Human Trafficking” on Tuesday to train and sensitise key stakeholders on preventing, detecting, and responding to human trafficking, with a focus on the critical role of the Railways in addressing the issue.According to a release by SWR, the workshop was inaugurated by V. Somanna, Union Minister of State for Railways and Jal Shakti. He emphasised the need for similar awareness programs in other major cities. He highlighted successful initiatives such as ‘Operation Meri Saheli’, which ensures the safety of women travelling alone or with children.Vijaya K. Rahatkar, Chairperson of the NCW, said, ”The MoU between NCW and Indian Railways outlined the four pillars essential to tackling human trafficking: Prevention, Protection, Prosecution, and Partnership.” She also highlighted ‘Operation Matrushakti’, which assists pregnant women in labour during train journeys.The workshop saw participation from RPF personnel, station masters, ticket examiners, GRP officials, and NGOs, according to the release.Published - October 14, 2025 08:26 pm IST
