Square Enix has announced Dissidia Duellum Final Fantasy, a new entry in its Dissidia game series. Currently in development for iOS and Android devices, the game takes place in modern-day Tokyo and is a 3v3 "team boss battle arena," Square Enix says.Once again, several Final Fantasy heroes like Cloud Strife, Lightning, and the Warrior of Light will take on the forces of Chaos--while dressed in contemporary fashion--and Square Enix is aiming to release the game in 2026.Anyone interested in trying out the game can also sign up to join a closed beta test for Android, provided that they reside in the United States and Canada. You'll have until October 28 to enter.The Dissidia franchise has been largely dormant since the last PC and console release in the series, Dissidia Final Fantasy NT. The game was first released in arcades in 2015, with the PC and PS4 release arriving in 2018. After a free edition of the game was launched in 2019 in an effort to reignite interest, support for Dissidia Final Fantasy NT eventually concluded in 2020.In other Final Fantasy news, work continues on the final chapter in the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy. The first two games in the saga are also headed to Xbox Series X|S and Switch 2 consoles, and PS5 owners who haven't played Remake or Rebirth yet can now preorder a new $60 bundle that includes both games and is scheduled to launch on December 4.Fans of the PlayStation-era games can also preorder the Final Fantasy VII & Final Fantasy VIII Remastered: Twin Pack and Final Fantasy IX Switch physical editions before their December 9 launch date.
