The sister of murder victim Chantelle Chetcuti, who was fatally stabbed in 2020, has made a heartfelt plea for urgent bail reform and clearer timelines within Malta’s justice system. In an emotional message, Stacey Chetcuti revealed that her family continues to live in fear after the suspected murderer, Justin Borg, was granted bail just eight months after the murder. Borg is pleading not guilty. She said the accused has been spotted near her family’s home and her husband’s workplace, describing the experience as a “constant torment.”“Every time I drive to see my relatives, I scan every black car, checking number plates to see if I’m about to pass my sister’s killer. It’s fear, disgust and anger all at once,” she wrote.Stacey urged authorities to strengthen bail conditions to ensure the safety and peace of victims’ families.“When bail is granted for serious crimes, victims should not be left tormented by the person who destroyed their lives while waiting for justice that never comes,” she said. She also criticised Home Affairs Minister Byron Camilleri and Justice Minister Jonathan Attard, saying that while they had expressed sympathy for her situation, they had failed to deliver on meaningful reform. What do you make of her statements?•
