Peel Regional Police say a 44-year-old man has been arrested and charged following a hate-motivated incident at Chinguacousy Park earlier this month.On Oct. 11, officers responded after a victim was allegedly confronted by a man who, without provocation, directed racial slurs toward him. Police said the suspect then brandished a replica firearm and attempted to assault the victim.The victim was able to subdue the accused, sustaining minor injuries in the process. Officers arrived shortly after and arrested the suspect at the scene.Police have identified the accused as Robert Keith McNally, 44, of no fixed address. He has been charged with possession of an imitation weapon for a dangerous purpose, pointing a firearm, breach of probation, assault, and mischief under $5,000.McNally was held for a bail hearing. The Peel Regional Police Hate Crime Unit is overseeing the case.Police are urging anyone with information about this incident or other similar encounters to contact investigators.
