BJP slams govt. over paddy procurement delay, demands immediate action

The Bharatiya Janata Party urged the State government to immediately open procurement centres on a war footing and purchase every grain of paddy produced by farmers at the Minimum Support Price (MSP). It has also cautioned rice millers against cheating farmers and to procure at the MSP fixed by the Central government on Tuesday.At a press conference in the State office, farmers wing president B. Narasaiah charged that despite 48 lakh metric tonnes bumper harvest production this season, procurement centres have not been opened so far in a clear sign of the State government’s negligence.“The corrupt system that prevailed under the BRS regime is still continuing. Rice millers, in collusion with certain officials, are conducting the procurement process in a way that harms farmers. This corrupt system must be dismantled, and transparent procurement procedures should be implemented without delay,” he said.PM Dhan Dhanya Krishi YojanaIn the meantime, rains in erstwhile Nalgonda, Warangal and Khammam districts led to farmers suffering heavy losses, said the BJP leader. Mr. Narasiah also stated that under the ‘PM Dhan Dhanya Krishi Yojana’, Narayanpet, Gadwal, Nagarkurnool and Jangaon districts have been selected for supporting not only agriculture but also livestock, fisheries and horticulture development with an investment of ₹5,760 crore over six years for farmers benefit.Arrest demandedIn a separate development, State president N. Ramchander Rao has demanded the immediate arrest of those responsible for abetting the suicide of party worker E. Madhukar in Neelwai village of Mancherial.
