Fireman electrocuted, another injured during pigeon rescue in Thane

By: Express News ServiceMumbai | October 12, 2025 10:10 PM IST 2 min readThe spokesperson said an inquiry will be carried out to check if the rescuers were wearing safety gears while carrying out the rescue operation.A 28-year old fireman was electrocuted while another fireman sustained serious burn injuries on Sunday while rescuing a pigeon that got trapped inside an electric box.The deceased fireman has been identified as Utsab Patil, while the injured fireman has been identified as Azad Patil (29).According to the disaster management cell of the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC), the incident took place at Thane’s Diva Sheel road around 5pm on Sunday. Civic officials said the pigeon got stuck at a critical position and if it was not taken out, not only the bird would have died but it would have led to a transformer-blast like situation.“The pigeon got entangled on a overhead cable wire and while carrying the rescue operation , one the firemen got exposed to a high voltage live wire which caught fire.
