Two persons were arrested after police seized 323 kg of gutka during surprise checks near Katpadi in Vellore on Saturday. Police said the arrested persons were identified as P. Senram, 38, and A. Ganapathy Ram, 29. They are residents of Rajasthan. Initial inquiry revealed that during routine vehicle searches near the police check post at Christianpet village near Katpadi, the team stopped an SUV that was driven by Ganapathy Ram. He gave contradictory answers to the police about the purpose of travel.Police got suspicious about him and checked the vehicle, where they found gutka in it. The consignment was heading to industrial towns like Sriperumbudur and Oragadam in Kancheepuram, where the banned product was meant to be sold to retail dealers. The duo was lodged at Central Prison in Vellore. A case was registered by Katpadi police and further probe is under way.Published - October 19, 2025 05:45 pm IST
