Man arrested in hit-and-run case in Delhi, five injured

A PCR unit rushed the women to Safdarjung Hospital. Two of them are still in the ICU. The victims are residents of Shalimar Bagh and Pitampura, aged between 35 and 63.An FIR under sections 281 and 125(A) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita was registered based on the statement of the Eeco’s driver and a probe was launched. “Police started scanning CCTV footage. The offending vehicle, a Grand Vitara, was eventually spotted. One of the headlights of the car was damaged during the accident,” said DCP (South West) Amit Goel.Officers mapped the car’s route through Africa Avenue Road, Hauz Khas, IIT flyover, Lado Sarai into Saket. CCTV footage from a residential block in Saket showed it entering the area early in the morning. “The owner stated that the car was being driven by his son, Chanakya Sankla, on the intervening night of November 22 and 23,” said DCP Goel.Police said Sankla admitted during questioning to having hit the Eeco. To avoid being caught, he allegedly drove the vehicle, with its front right tire shredded, on the rim for over 10 km before reaching his residence in Saket. He later sent the car to a workshop in Okhla for a repair, said police. Police seized the Grand Vitara from the workshop and arrested the accused.
